The Founder: Professor, Dr Hellicy C Ngambi, since 1984, has been passionate about equipping leaders, managers and entrepreneurs with competencies, skills, attitudes and values that would empower them to became exemplary, authentic and practitioners of RARE (Responsible, Accountable, Relevant, Ethical) principle – based values in all their modus operandi.
Prof Hellicy C. Ngambi is the Vice Chancellor at Mulungushi University in Zambia where she is the first woman to be appointed in such a position in the Republic of Zambia. She was also, simultaneously, the Vice Chancellor of and Kwame University from May 2017 to August 2019, and transformed it from a college to a fully – fledged University in less than the three years mandated by the Government. She is a full professor of business leadership. She served in various management positions at the University of South African (Unisa) for 18 years.
These positions include, Deputy Executive Dean; Executive Director and CEO of Unisa´s Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL); and finally, as the Executive Dean of the College of Economic and Management Sciences, the largest on the African continent with a student population of over 200,00 and staff compliment of approximately 900. In all these positions she was the first woman to be appointed. She was previously the Principal and Managing Director of the Academy of Business Management in Botswana from 1988 to 1994, a private university college she founded.
She has pioneered and successfully implemented many projects in the countries where she has worked including, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, and United States of America. These include the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute and Zambia Association of Public Universities and Colleges. She started her lecturing career in 1984 at the University of Zambia.
She has also lectured at University of South Florida (USA), the University of Botswana and Unisa´s graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) and at Willamette University in USA as an American council on Education (ACE) Fellow. She holds the following degrees: a Doctorate in Business Leadership (DBL), Unisa, RSA; a Master of Science in Management (MSM, Cum Laude – and obtained the Beta Gamma Sigma Award), USF, USA; a Master of Business Administration (MBA), BSU, USA; a Bachelor of Arts degree with merit (BA - Econ) UNZA, Zambia; Chartered Institute of Marketing Certificate (CIM) and International Teacher’s Programme (ITP) certificate, LBS – UK, and an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellowship. She is a certified PROSCI change management expert. Prof Ngambi has appeared in various print, radio and TV media including interviews by the famous Dr Diane Hamilton in the USA and top cover of African Decisions and CEO Magazines.
She was the consecutive winner of CEO African´s most influential women of the year in government and Business 2016 & 2017 awards, hosted in Lusaka and the 2017 Continental Lifetime achiever Award, Hosted in Johannesburg. Her research has been in the fields of leadership and organization effectiveness (with an emphasis on the African context). She has authored, edited and published several articles in journals and book chapters and books. Her sole authored book: RARE Total Leadership: Leading with the Head, Heart and Hands was published in 2011. RARE stands for Responsible, Accountable, Relevant and Ethical. She has transformed an organizations under her leadership to be productive and successful.
Professor Ngambi a sought after speaker and presenter. She has made numerous local and international presentations. She has served and still serves as either a chairperson or vice - chairperson, on a variety of committees, councils and boards in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and the USA including Ubuntunet Alliance, Zambia, Research Education networks, and the presidential appointments to the various boards including the Central Bank of Zambia.
